Who Is Like The Lord Our God?

In The Word

Read: Psalm 113, 114

113 Praise the Lord!
Praise Him, you servants of the Lord,
Praise the name of the Lord.
Blessed be the name of the Lord
From this time on and forever.
From the rising of the sun to its setting,
The name of the Lord is to be praised.
The Lord is high above all nations;
His glory is above the heavens.

Who is like the Lord our God,
Who is enthroned on high,
Who looks far down to
The heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust,
He lifts the needy from the garbage heap,
To seat them with noblemen,
With the noblemen of His people.
He has the infertile woman live in the house
As a joyful mother of children.
Praise the Lord!

114 When Israel went forth from Egypt,
The house of Jacob from a people of a foreign language,
Judah became His sanctuary;
Israel, His dominion.

The sea looked and fled;
The Jordan turned back.
The mountains skipped like rams,
The hills, like lambs.
What ails you, sea, that you flee?
Jordan, that you turn back?
Mountains, that you skip like rams?
Hills, like lambs?

Tremble, earth, before the Lord,
Before the God of Jacob,
Who turned the rock into a pool of water,
The flint into a fountain of water.

Walking In The Word

These psalms are used for the Jewish Passover and are known as “praise” psalms. It opens with, “Halleluiah,” which means “Praise the Lord!” And why not? For who is like the Lord our God? From the rising of the sun and the going down of the same, His name is to be praised! When you look at His creation, those whom you love around you, it is easy to begin to praise Him for all the things you see in your life. He protects the needy and lifts up the poor (Psalm 113:7). He is there with the barren, He makes them joyful with children (Psalm 113:9). All of creation bows before Him; His creation obeys His voice.

When I consider God’s creation, just some of the things I’ve seen on this earth, it is easy for me to bow and worship our mighty God. To feel His presence, to see how He works on my behalf, it humbles me. Have you considered the greatness of your God? The God who created the heavens and the earth, the billions of stars you see each night, is concerned for you! Think about that: you are one of over 7 billion people on earth right now, and God considers you!

In Psalm 114, Israel saw deliverance from Egypt. God literally moved heaven and earth to deliver His people. He’ll do the same for you. Are you in a place of despair, feeling trapped and alone? Just like Israel, God can come to your rescue. Call out to Him, praise Him as King, and see if He won’t rescue you today.
