A GREAT DECEPTION

In The Word

Read Psalm 36

Wickedness of Men and Lovingkindness of God.

For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the Lord.

36 Transgression speaks to the ungodly within his heart;
There is no fear of God before his eyes.
For it flatters him in his own eyes
Concerning the discovery of his iniquity and the hatred of it.
The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit;
He has ceased to be wise and to do good.
He plans wickedness upon his bed;
He sets himself on a path that is not good;
He does not despise evil.

Your lovingkindness, O Lord, extends to the heavens,
Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;
Your judgments are like a great deep.
Lord, You preserve man and beast.
How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings.
They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house;
And You give them to drink of the river of Your delights.
For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

10 O continue Your lovingkindness to those who know You,
And Your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 Let not the foot of pride come upon me,
And let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 There the doers of iniquity have fallen;
They have been thrust down and cannot rise.

Walking In The Word

This passage speaks of how easily mankind can walk in the deception of sin, yet God’s love awaits the sinner to set Him free. Let’s look at the deception of sin and how it can so easily bring corruption to a person. Sin leads you down a path that looks pleasing to the eye and tantalizing to the touch, but at its core is pain and suffering. Most people that walk this path do so because they believe that all is well and no harm will come to them. Deception presents itself as good and true, but when cut open is rotten at the core. It has been said about sin’s deception that sin will lead you where you did not intend on going, keep you longer than you wanted to stay, and cost you a higher price than you thought you would pay.

One of the greatest sins that a person can live in is the sin of self-deception. This is the person who thinks all is well, but in reality they are headed down the path of destruction. Looking through the lens of the Scripture and being sensitive to the voice of the Father will expose any deception in our life. Psalm 139:23-24 is a great passage to meditate on to ask the right questions to determine if you may be living this way. Right now is a good time to stop and ask the Lord to reveal any area in your life that you may be deceived. If you find yourself trapped in the deception of sin, God is waiting to pull you out today.
