Father, Do You Hear Me?

In The Word

Read: Psalm 130, 131

130 Out of the depths I have cried to You, Lord.
Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the sound of my pleadings.
If You, Lord, were to keep account of guilty deeds,
Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with You,
So that You may be revered.

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
And I wait for His word.
My soul waits in hope for the Lord
More than the watchmen for the morning;
Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning.
Israel, wait for the Lord;
For with the Lord there is mercy,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his guilty deeds.

131 Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes arrogant;
Nor do I involve myself in great matters,
Or in things too difficult for me.
I have certainly soothed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child resting against his mother,
My soul within me is like a weaned child.
Israel, wait for the Lord
From this time on and forever.

Walking In The Word

In Psalm 130, the writer cried out to the Father for Him to hear his voice. It was not a cry for daily needs, but a cry of repentance. Even in the Old Testament, the writers understood the relationship between the righteousness of God and their own iniquities; they knew they needed forgiveness. At that time, sin could only be covered by the blood of animals. It would take a miracle for the sins of men to be forgiven, for their sins not to be held against them. With the Lord, there is “loving-kindness” and “abundant redemption” (Psalm 130:7) and it came in the form of Jesus Christ.

Man had a guilt problem, being guilty of sin, and it came from the original sin committed by Adam. This sin kept man from the presence of God. God is holy and just, and man could not approach such a holy being as God. But God made a way from the very beginning by sending His righteous Son, without blemish, to accept the penalty of death in man’s place. Now, when we accept this gift from God, of what Jesus did for us at Calvary, we are covered with a different blood. Not a blood of goats and lambs, but the very blood of Jesus Christ which gives us right-standing with God. When God looks at you, when you have received His Son as your Lord and Savior, He sees the righteousness of Jesus Christ, not the old you. We are not the writers of old, waiting for the morning to come (Psalm 130:6); the morning is here! It is His Son Jesus Christ!
