Draw Near To God

In The Word

Read: Hebrews 10:19-39

A New and Living Way

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let’s approach God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let’s hold firmly to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, 25 not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Christ or Judgment

26 For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27 but a terrifying expectation of judgment and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28 Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge His people.” 31 It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32 But remember the former days, when, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, 33 partly by being made a public spectacle through insults and distress, and partly by becoming companions with those who were so treated. 34 For you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better and lasting possession. 35 Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.

37 For yet in a very little while,
He who is coming will come, and will not delay.
38 But My righteous one will live by faith;
And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in him.

39 But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul.

Walking In The Word

In the profound words of Hebrews 10:19-39, we are invited into a transformative reality: through the blood of Jesus Christ, a new and living way has been opened for us to enter the Most Holy Place. No longer separated by sin’s veil, we have bold confidence to approach God’s throne, receiving mercy and grace in our time of need (vv. 19-22). This is our “all access pass” to the Father—a reconciliation won not by our merits, but by Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. As believers, we can release the weight of our failures, knowing they are washed clean by His blood and purified by His word. What freedom! Yet, this grace is not a license for complacency.
The passage urges us to draw near with sincere hearts, holding unswervingly to the hope we profess (v. 23). It’s a call to live better, empowered by the Holy Spirit. God didn’t redeem us to indulge in whatever whims arise; He saved us to reflect His holiness. Willful, habitual sin grieves the Spirit and invites severe divine correction—a “fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire” (v. 27). Instead of continuing in patterns that dishonor Him, let us strive to please God in every thought, word, and deed. This means spurring one another on toward love and good works, not forsaking our gatherings as some do (v. 24-25). Community strengthens our resolve, reminding us of the early days when we endured suffering for the faith, standing firm amid trials (vv. 32-34).
For many of us, our walk with God has demanded much—time, sacrifice, vulnerability. Now is not the moment to draw back or shrink in fear, for “if we shrink back, the Lord will not be pleased with us” (v. 38). Perseverance is key; we must endure to receive what is promised (v. 36). The righteous live by faith, not retreating but pressing forward (v. 39). Let’s refocus on Jesus Christ, the author and perfecter of our faith, immersing ourselves in His teachings. What distractions have pulled you away? Is it busyness, doubt, or unconfessed sin? Identify it, confess it, and realign your heart.
Beloved, let’s finish our race with endurance. In a world tempting us to compromise, hold fast to this confidence. God’s grace equips us not just to start well, but to end victoriously. May we live as those who believe and are saved, glorifying Him until the end.
