So Many Reasons To Be Thankful

In The Word

Read: Psalms 92-93

Praise for the Lord’s Goodness.

A Psalm, a Song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is good to give thanks to the Lord
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your faithfulness by night,
With the ten-stringed lute and with the harp,
With resounding music upon the lyre.
For You, O Lord, have made me glad by what You have done,
I will sing for joy at the works of Your hands.

How great are Your works, O Lord!
Your thoughts are very deep.
A senseless man has no knowledge,
Nor does a stupid man understand this:
That when the wicked sprouted up like grass
And all who did iniquity flourished,
It was only that they might be destroyed forevermore.
But You, O Lord, are on high forever.
For, behold, Your enemies, O Lord,
For, behold, Your enemies will perish;
All who do iniquity will be scattered.

10 But You have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox;
I have been anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has looked exultantly upon my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Planted in the house of the Lord,
They will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still yield fruit in old age;
They shall be full of sap and very green,
15 To declare that the Lord is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

The Majesty of the Lord.

93 The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord has clothed and girded Himself with strength;
Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord,
The floods have lifted up their voice,
The floods lift up their pounding waves.
More than the sounds of many waters,
Than the mighty breakers of the sea,
The Lord on high is mighty.
Your testimonies are fully confirmed;
Holiness befits Your house,
Lord, forevermore.

Walking In The Word

Our reading today encourages us to always be thankful because God shows His mercy and grace forever. Sometimes, because of the way life hits us, we can forget how gracious and faithful our Father is. We must remember that all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). God reveals His loving-kindness and faithfulness towards us every day through His creation. When we walk according to our own ambitions and desires, we become blinded to the goodness of God. His works are greater than ours, and His thoughts are much deeper than our ability to comprehend in our flesh.

Once we realize how much God loves us, we begin to abandon our carnal desires and to truly see all that we should be thankful for. In Psalm 92:1-2, it says, “It is good to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning and Your faithfulness by night.” This is an awesome picture of God’s everlasting love towards us.

Today, do not allow worries, sickness, anger, bitterness, and doubt to cloud your vision of how good and faithful the Lord is. Focus on all the things He has done in your life and begin to sing His praises so all can hear and join in. When you do this, according to the psalmist, “The righteous will flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon” (Psalm 92:12).
