Glorify God

In The Word

Read: Psalms 66 – 67

Praise for God’s Mighty Deeds and for His Answer to Prayer.

For the choir director. A Song. A Psalm.

66 Shout joyfully to God, all the earth;
Sing the glory of His name;
Make His praise glorious.
Say to God, “How awesome are Your works!
Because of the greatness of Your power Your enemies will give feigned obedience to You.
“All the earth will worship You,
And will sing praises to You;
They will sing praises to Your name.” Selah.

Come and see the works of God,
Who is awesome in His deeds toward the sons of men.
He turned the sea into dry land;
They passed through the river on foot;
There let us rejoice in Him!
He rules by His might forever;
His eyes keep watch on the nations;
Let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.

Bless our God, O peoples,
And sound His praise abroad,
Who keeps us in life
And does not allow our feet to slip.
10 For You have tried us, O God;
You have refined us as silver is refined.
11 You brought us into the net;
You laid an oppressive burden upon our loins.
12 You made men ride over our heads;
We went through fire and through water,
Yet You brought us out into a place of abundance.
13 I shall come into Your house with burnt offerings;
I shall pay You my vows,
14 Which my lips uttered
And my mouth spoke when I was in distress.
15 I shall offer to You burnt offerings of fat beasts,
With the smoke of rams;
I shall make an offering of bulls with male goats. Selah.

16 Come and hear, all who fear God,
And I will tell of what He has done for my soul.
17 I cried to Him with my mouth,
And He was extolled with my tongue.
18 If I regard wickedness in my heart,
The Lord will not hear;
19 But certainly God has heard;
He has given heed to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God,
Who has not turned away my prayer
Nor His lovingkindness from me.

The Nations Exhorted to Praise God.

For the choir director; with stringed instruments. A Psalm. A Song.

67 God be gracious to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us— Selah.
That Your way may be known on the earth,
Your salvation among all nations.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will judge the peoples with uprightness
And guide the nations on the earth. Selah.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
The earth has yielded its produce;
God, our God, blesses us.
God blesses us,
That all the ends of the earth may fear Him.

Walking In The Word

Both of these Psalms have the same theme. It is about glorifying a good and merciful God, and not just the people of God. These psalms proclaim that the whole earth glorifies God because of the great things He has done. He always keeps a people whose feet stay on His path by His power. He then blesses those people and fills their lives with abundance. They are blessed by God’s face shining on them, and can lift their voices and tell the world of the great things He has done. God allows us to play a part in this work by answering our prayers when they are offered with the right intent and heart. When we walk holy in the Lord, the whole earth sees and has an opportunity to fear Him.

Our lives play such a great role in glorifying God. We, as a people of God, must continue to look to God for His favor and power to keep our feet on His ancient paths. Then when we pray and praise, God hears us and answers us, filling our lives with all good things on the earth. Those good things are love, joy, peace, hope, right relationships, material blessings, life-giving activities, and much more. Our lives begin to shine like the noon day sun, showing the world that there is a God, and that He is a loving Father and Savior of all of mankind. May we all shout for joy and sing of the glory of His name!
