A New Covenant: Our Path To God

In The Word

Read: Hebrews 8

A Better Ministry

Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord set up, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer. Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was warned by God when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, “See,” He says, “that you make all things by the pattern which was shown to you on the mountain.” But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, to the extent that He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises.

A New Covenant

For if that first covenant had been free of fault, no circumstances would have been sought for a second. For in finding fault with the people, He says,

Behold, days are coming, says the Lord,
When I will bring about a new covenant
With the house of Israel and the house of Judah,
Not like the covenant which I made with their fathers
On the day I took them by the hand
To bring them out of the land of Egypt;
For they did not continue in My covenant,
And I did not care about them, says the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel
After those days, declares the Lord:
I will put My laws into their minds,
And write them on their hearts.
And I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.
11 And they will not teach, each one his fellow citizen,
And each one his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
For they will all know Me,
From the least to the greatest of them.
12 For I will be merciful toward their wrongdoings,
And their sins I will no longer remember.”

13 When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is about to disappear.

Walking In The Word

Hebrews 8 opens with a profound declaration: “Now the main point in what has been said is this.” This verse cuts to the heart of God’s redemptive story, revealing the inadequacy of the old covenant and the glory of the new. Under the first covenant, humanity repeatedly failed to uphold our end of the bargain. Our attempts at righteousness through external laws and rituals proved futile, marred by sin and rebellion. But God, in His infinite mercy, did not abandon us. Instead, He unveiled a better plan—a divine strategy to bridge the chasm between Himself and His creation.
At the center of this plan stands Jesus Christ, our High Priest and Mediator. He came not to patch up the old system but to fulfill it, offering Himself as the perfect sacrifice. By paying the ultimate price for our sins on the cross, Jesus reconciled us to God. The Father affirmed this victory by raising Him from the dead and seating Him at His right hand—a position of supreme honor and authority. Here, Jesus reigns as King over His eternal kingdom, interceding for us with unmatched power and compassion.
This exaltation marks the abolition of the first covenant and the establishment of a new one, founded on better promises. Unlike the old, which operated from the outside in—demanding obedience through rules etched on stone—this new covenant transforms us from the inside out. God promises to place His laws within our hearts, inscribing His Word directly into our spirits. He sends the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, empowering us to live righteously. No longer do we approach God merely as a distant deity; we have complete, intimate access to Him as our loving Father. Our sins are not just covered but utterly wiped away, forgotten forever. And as the crowning prize for accepting Jesus as Lord and remaining faithful to Him and His kingdom, we receive eternal life in heaven with Elohim Himself.
Beloved, don’t cling to the shadows of the old covenant. Look within, where the new reality pulses with life. Embrace this all-access pass to the throne of grace. Stay connected to the family of God through fellowship and community. Renew your mind daily by immersing yourself in His Word, inviting the Holy Spirit to guide, convict, and illuminate. In this covenant, victory is assured—not by our strength, but by His. Let it propel you forward, living boldly in the freedom and joy of Christ’s superior ministry. As Hebrews 8 assures us, this is the main point: God’s better way, eternally ours.
