Are You Hungry And Thirsty?

In The Word

Read: Psalms 63

The Thirsting Soul Satisfied in God.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

63 God, You are my God; I shall be watching for You;
My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You,
In a dry and exhausted land where there is no water.
So have I seen You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and glory.
Because Your favor is better than life,
My lips will praise You.
So I will bless You as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul is satisfied as with fat and fatness,
And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches,
For You have been my help,
And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
My soul clings to You;
Your right hand takes hold of me.

But those who seek my life to destroy it,
Will go into the depths of the earth.
10 They will be turned over to the power of the sword;
They will be a prey for foxes.
11 But the king will rejoice in God;
Everyone who swears by Him will boast,
For the mouths of those who speak lies will be stopped.

Walking In The Word

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied (Matthew 5:6).

How would you describe your personal time with God? Is it a set-aside time dedicated to Him, or is it a time where you fit Him into something else you are doing? Is it an obligation or a devoted act of love? Is it about religion or relationship?

If He is truly our Savior and Lord, then we should be excited about the opportunity to spend time with Him. We should desire to be in His presence as one who is in a dry place where there is no water, looking forward to springs of living water. We should be hungry to put His Word inside of us, and to study it and apply it.

What about our corporate time with Him? Do we come in His sanctuary prepared to worship Him because we love Him, or do we grudgingly come before Him to check off a list or pacify someone else? Do our joyful lips praise Him from our heart of love for Him? Do we lift up our hands in His name? Do we come ready to hear from Him; ready to learn and obey?

Is He your God? Do you hunger and thirst for Him, not only on Sundays and Wednesdays, but every day? If not, why not change that today?
