God Is Always There

In The Word

Read: Psalm 30

Thanksgiving for Rescue from Death.

A Psalm; a Song at the Dedication of the House. A Psalm of David.

30 I will exalt You, Lord, for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my enemies rejoice over me.
Lord my God,
I cried to You for help, and You healed me.
Lord, You have brought up my soul from Sheol;
You have kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit.
Sing praise to the Lord, you His godly ones,
And praise the mention of His holiness.
For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning.

Now as for me, I said in my prosperity,
“I will never be moved.”
Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong;
You hid Your face, I was dismayed.
To You, Lord, I called,
And to the Lord I pleaded for compassion:
“What gain is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit?
Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?

10 “Hear, Lord, and be gracious to me;
Lord, be my helper.”
11 You have turned my mourning into dancing for me;
You have untied my sackcloth and encircled me with joy,
12 That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Walking In The Word

David gives thanks to God in this passage because God answered his cry for help in his difficult situation. David’s troubles were a result of his own doing and also from his enemies attacking. He cried out to God with a heart of repentance as well as a need for protection. David became very transparent with the Lord through this conversation and plea for help.

Let this be an example for us that when we experience difficult situations, we should cry out to God knowing that He is always there. God already knows what we are walking through so we should be open, honest, and transparent; He wants us to pour out our hearts to the Father. It does not matter what the situation is. Whether it is the loss of a loved one, financial or relational challenges, or the pressures of life, God is still there. What you must know is that as dark as the time might be in that moment, joy comes in the morning and His favor lasts for a lifetime. During these times we are encouraged to sing praises and thanksgiving to the Lord. It may be in that time of praising God that breakthrough happens just like in the example of Paul and Silas when they were in prison.

Also, you may be feeling a separation from God because of something you have done or your own sin. This may be your dark time. We see this with David in Psalm 30:6-10. Simply call back out in repentance like David did and allow Him to restore the brokenness in the relationship. God is near to the broken-hearted (Psalm 34:18).
